eKasi: Our Stories is a South African television drama anthology series created by Vusi Twala. It is an e.tv original series commissioned by e.tv and is produced by various production companies in South Africa. The series started new and emerging talent alongside industry veterans.

Production

[edit]Initially, the series was meant to contain only five episodes, all of which were written and directed by Vusi Twala, and entirely produced by Seleke Communications. According to Twala, shooting the series in a township environment allowed them to explore a wealth of images in telling socially relevant stories unique to South Africa with a global appeal. e.tv commissioned a second season after its success, this time involving two more production companies, Eclipse TV Sobabili Productions. Several other production companies were also involved for subsequent seasons. The team was comprised of a hybrid of new emerging filmakers and directors, and industry award winning talent. Starting from season 3, the series was produced in conjunction with the Gauteng Film Commission.
Filming
[edit]The series was first filmed in Soweto and surrounding areas. Subsequent seasons went on to include various locations in Westbury and Leeuwkop, Katlegong and Alexandra.
Music
[edit]Much of the music used in the series was taken from the Lalela Music Library.
Broadcast
[edit]The series premiered on 5 October 2009 on e.tv, with several premiere episodes added on the now defunct eKasi+. The channel previously uploaded episodes on YouTube. Later on, the series was added to e.tv's online catch-up service eOn Demand, later absorbed into streaming service eVOD.
