Edem Tengue, born September 24, 1980 in Lomé, Togo, is a Togolese politician, business mana and Chartered accountant. since October 1, 2020, he has been Minister of Maritime Economy, Fisheries and Coastal Protection in the Victoire Tomegah Dogbé Government.

Early life and Carreer[modifier | modifier le code]

In 1999, he obtained his baccalaureate in Mathematics and Physical Sciences (C4). A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, the University of Leicester and the University of Birmingham, he joined the Maersk group's training program in Copenhagen from 2003 until 2005. Edem Tengue also obtained the MBA from Imperial College London.

From 2005 to 2007, he was assigned as assistant to the financial director of the regional office of the group which covers all of Scandinavia and the Baltic states; he was then based in Göteborg, Sweden. He returned to Togo as financial director of the three group companies that are Maersk Togo S.A., Damco Togo S.A. and Lomé Terminal service that the Maersk group had created to apply for the privatization of handling activities at the port of Lomé. He will be appointed Commercial Director then General Manager of the Togolese subsidiary of the Danish conglomerate Maersk, succeeding New Zealander Kevin Taylor.

His peers elected him president of the association of maritime navigation companies in Togo. in 2017 he was one of the 20 Young Leaders of the French-African Foundation. In 2018 it is part of the Choiseuil ranking of economic leaders of tomorrow. on October 1, 2020, he was called to government as Minister of Maritime Economy.

Political carreer[modifier | modifier le code]

He was elected in the HAHO constituency to the Togolese National Assembly under the party UNIR colors during the legislative elections of December 20, 2018. However, he gave up sitting there after three months to devote himself to his professional activities.
