Ekaterina Shelehova (born 1995, Kaliningrad) is a Russian soprano singer. She has worked as an opera singer and has sung as the lead vocalist for the French new age group Era.

Early life and education[edit]

Shelehova showed an early interest in music and started singing when she was three years old.[1] She took singing lessons and participated in several competitions and festivals, winning the top prize in the "Russian Hopes" festival when she was six.[2] She also recorded a CD of Russian children's songs, Дождичай1.[1]

She moved with her family to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada when she was eight years old. There, she continued her musical education at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where she attended the masterclasses of Jean MacPhail, Alexandra Pasko, and David Varjabed[3][unreliable source] and earned her Grade 10 Vocal Diploma, receiving three Gold Medals for her Vocal studies.  Shortly after, she finished her studies in Piano and received her diploma in Piano Pedagogy. She also won first place in the Kiwanis competitions in 2008, 2010, and 2012.[4]

Career[edit]

She released her debut album, Moonlight, under the name Katya in 2013.[5] The album featured songs in English, Italian, French, and Russian.

In 2014, she moved to Italy and enrolled at the Conservatorio di Milano, where she completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in opera performance[6]. She performed several roles in Barlassina at the Teatro Antonio Belloni, such as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Adina in L'elisir d'amore, and Musetta in La bohème.

In 2019, she collaborated with the iSing Opera Academy and performed on a tour through several cities in China[7]. She also studied improvisation, extended vocal techniques, and folk music in Mexico in 2020. In 2021, she auditioned for Italia's Got Talent,[8] where her improvised performance of an original aria; the response from the judges and audience went viral.[9] All four judges endorsed her performance and she advanced to the next round.[4]

In 2022, she joined Era, the French new age group that combines Gregorian chants with modern elements. She became their lead vocalist and toured Europe with them.[10] She also released several singles and EPs as a solo artist, such as "The Voice Within", "Fly Away", and "Dreaming of You".[11]

Shelehova's upcoming projects include joining ERA's Live Experience Tour as a lead vocalist in February of 2024, and is currently working on new music and preparing for more concerts and tours.
