Elisabeth, also Isabella Katharina (28 September 1601 – 1651 or 1654), was a Czech noblewoman from the House of Harrach, known primarily as the second wife of Albrecht von Wallenstein.
Biography[edit]
She was born as the daughter of Count Karl von Harrach and his wife, Maria Elisabeth Freiin von Schrattenbach. Her brothers were Cardinal Ernst Adalbert and politician Franz Albrecht of Harrach.
Isabella Katharina was very pious. She was called princeps religiosissima by her contemporaries.
Marriage and issue[edit]
Isabella Katharina became the second wife of Albrecht von Wallenstein, Duke of Friedland, Imperial Generalissimo. Wallenstein's notes and letters show the great respect, tenderness and affection he felt for Elizabeth. For example, in an announcement dated April 9, 1631, he wrote a decree to his captains from Smidar, Hořice, Kumburek, Veliš and Kopidlno that they "should send beautifully smelling blue violets to Her Serene Highness."
Isabella Katharina gave birth to Albrecht's daughter Maria Elisabeth (1625–1662), who, despite her disapproval, married Rudolf von Kaunitz from the North Bohemian branch of the Kaunitz family.[1]
