Elise Ann Ecklund (born February 18, 1997) is an American YouTuber, and singer-songwriter. She is best known for her early videos containing guitar and ukulele tutorials and covers, while her newer videos contain skits, as well as vlogs relating to music. She currently has 4.57 million subscribers on her main YouTube channel as of July 2024.

Early Life

Elise Ann Ecklund was born on February 18, 1997, in Wichita, Kansas.[2] She has five siblings, including her brother, Britt, and her sister, Eden,[3] who also has a YouTube channel.[4]

Her family would eventually move to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and during her childhood, she would attend christian schools, and at one point, she was homeschooled. She would later study at John Brown University, and even attend their campus in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and study online for Southern New Hampshire University respectively, and she got her degree in Marketing.[2]

YouTube career

Prior to making her own YouTube channel on February 11, 2015[3], Elise was part of a short-lived band that she formed in 2014 with two childhood friends, and they made a channel for their band. They also released an extended play on Spotify. Elise refuses to provide further information on this EP, showing embarrassment when discussing the project.[5]

Her first video that she uploaded on her main channel was of a guitar tutorial on the song 'Youth' by Troy Sivan, uploaded on March 11, 2016.[3] She reached popularity in 2018, after posting a video where she wrote a song using only her fans' Instagram comments. The video currently has 16 million views as of July 2024.[6] She has since gained more popularity and would even go on to collaborate with other music-related YouTubers such as Robert IDK,[7] Jon Cozart,[8] and Bernadette Teaches Music,[9] among others. She was also featured in an episode of Steve Harvey's daytime talk show, Steve.[10]

Elise also shares a channel with her sister, Eden, titled 'Eden and Elise', though they've only uploaded two videos, and haven't been active on that channel since October 2020.[11]

On August 12, 2022, Elise launched a vlog channel titled 'Elise Vlogs' where she makes content that's similar to her main channel, but also tries to experiment with other formats.[12]

Music career

Elise's music career has roots from her YouTube channel. She uploaded her first original song, 'These Broken Bones', on her channel on November 11, 2017.[13]

On April 4, 2018, she uploaded a video where she wrote a song using only her fans' Instagram comments. The video became a viral hit and currently has 16 million views as of July 2024.[6] It would later spawn two more installations, as well as a spin-off series where she writes songs using hate comments.[14]

The first original song that she released on streaming platforms was 'I Suffer More' on May 30, 2019.[15] The song is supposed to be the response to Napalm Death's song, 'You Suffer' (1987), and is 0.87 seconds long, breaking Napalm Death's record.[16] Guinness World Records has yet to acknowledge this.

On August 24, 2019, she was featured on Robert IDK's album, 'Stop Thinking and Just Do' (2019), in the second track, 'Your New Boyfriend Sucks'.[7]

On October 6, 2023, she was featured on Scrawny's single, 'please send a message'.[17]

On October 27, 2023, she released her first punk rock song, 'ur mom', inspired by 'Your Mom' jokes.[18]

Her latest song, 'Half of My Life', was released on May 31, 2024 on all streaming platforms.[19]

She is also part of a group of online influencers for the music instrument company, Flight Ukulele, where she sells three signature ukuleles, a signature capo in both purple and teal, a strap, a songbook, and a purple signature kazoo.[20] She's also posted content for there social media.[21] The most recent post that she made for them was on December 11, 2023.[22]

As her channel grew, so did her content range; she began uploading vlogs—mostly music related, but some straying from that topic, such as attempting to live twenty-four hours on her balcony, handcuffing herself to her sister for twenty-four hours, and cutting off part of her hair.[3]

Elise has stated on multiple occasions that she tries to keep her content family-friendly.[23][24] She censors swearing, sexual content, and graphic content whenever she comes across such material in her vlogs.[25]

Most of Elise's music is considered to be in the pop genre, but she's also done christian pop, folk-pop, comedy, emo, and punk rock.[26]

Personal life

Elise joined with her sister, Eden, and moved out of their parents' house in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and into an apartment in Tulsa, Oklahoma from late 2019 until 2020, fallowing a carbon monoxide incident.[3] Eden would move out of their current home, following Elise's marriage with her husband, Bryan.[27]

Elise began dating her husband, Bryan Landry, after matching on the dating app, Bumble, in October 2019.[28][29] Their relationship became public on Elise's YouTube channel after eight months of dating.[30] Elise announced on her Instagram on December 31, 2020, that they became engaged.[31] They married on June 17, 2021.[27] They have yet to have any children. Bryan works for production house company, DC Pro,[32] and has helped provide lighting, video, and audio to various churches,[33][34] organizations such as Turning Point USA,[35] and Fox Nation's Patriot Awards.[36] Bryan has also directed many of Elise's music videos since their relationship,[37][38] with the exception of her single, 'Fake' (2022), where her brother, Britt, directed that video.[39]

Elise adopted a female golden retriever named Sunshine in 2017.[3] Her husband, Bryan, also has a female dog named Kate.[40]

Besides doing YouTube and music, she also works as a Marketing Official for Amazon.[2]

Mental health

Elise has been diagnosed with anxiety and depression.[41] She has addressed her mental health in some videos, and credits God and Jesus Christ for helping her through it.[42]

Religious views

Elise is a nondenominational Christian.[43] She was raised in the faith and went to christian schools. Whenever she does talk about her faith in her videos, she mostly just reminds her viewers that they have purpose and that Jesus loves them through the stories that she tells, or a QnA.[44][42] In terms of what she believes specifically, she's only talked about abstinence[41]. She did state in one video that "the Bible, and everything in it, is what I believe in", and that she's looked up certain topics in context, because "a lot of verses can be taken out of context to mean... whatever the heck you want it to mean".[44] In some videos, she is seen reading off of Dr. David Jeremiah's 'The Jeremiah Study Bible'.[45][46][47] She believes that the Bible is truth.[44] Her christian faith may also play a role for why she keeps her YouTube content family-friendly.

Political views

While Elise tends to avoid politics for the most part, there had been a few brief moments where she has expressed her views, and considering the following research, she seems to be Republican. There are multiple old Twitter posts, now called X, from 2016 and 2017 where she wrote about people getting offended over America, having an opinion, and supporting viewpoints with research[48]; called out and criticized those who were harassing Trump voters following the 2016 US Presidential Election[49]; defended a woman who was facing backlash for using the word "gender" when referring to gender reveal parties[50]; claimed that seeing people argue certain political views that are not supported by facts in 140 characters was the cause of her headache[51]; and criticized 2016 US Democratic Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.[52]
