Lyrics[edit]

Although the two versions are different musically, the lyrics from the original has been reused by The Living Tombstone. These are the raw lyrics as noted by Genius:

[Verse 1][edit]

Everyone makes mistakes, I've had more than my share

But it's okay 'cause I'm gonna repair it

They say there are no retakes, but I just don't agree, no

This show is of my own making

[Chorus][edit]

Take it back to the start

I've had a change of heart

I know we can make it better than it ever was

I know we can make it better

I know we can make it better than it ever was

I know we can make it better

[Verse 2][edit]

I know there's things to change, the path that I could choose is

Loose and I must find a new one

Our fates are not yet written, I will take the warning

Choose a way that's less destructive, -ive, -ive, -ive

[Bridge][edit]

Yeah, I know we look bad, but we have only seen one path

Can't you see? We are free to choose our destiny

And be the way we want to be

A second chance, you just need to believe

[Interlude][edit]

Believe, believe, believe, believe

Believe, believe, believe, believe (Ah, ah, ah, ah)

Believe, believe, believe, believe (Ah, ah, ah, ah)

Believe, believe, believe, believe (Ah, ah, ah, ah)

[Chorus][edit]

Take it back to the start

I've had a change of heart

I know we can make it better than it ever was

I know we can make it better

I know we can make it better than it ever was

I know we can make it better

[Outro][edit]

I know we can make it better than it ever was

I know we can make it better

I know we can make it better than it ever was

I know we can make it better[1]

Meaning[edit]

The general theme of the song is regretting mistakes, and fixing them. The song talks about changing the singer’s self and their ways. In a way, this can count as a reference to real life, where humans often try to avoid mistakes (unless they do them deliberately, which is not going to be covered here). Regretting past mistakes is a natural part of being human. It often stems from the realisation that a human's actions have caused harm, either to themselves or others. Making and reflecting on mistakes is also a fundamental part of learning and growing.

In the stone age of humanity, people often lived in tribes, and each person with different tasks, such as hunting, making food, growing crops, etc. And, if a human would get kicked out of their tribe, that would mean almost certain death. Humans also regret mistakes because of the instinct to survive, which drives all of society. Humans stay alive, they make relationships, procreate and have offspring, the process repeats. Making fatal mistakes would mean not being able to do this, and this is also where fear comes from. The ancestral need to survive.

Because of this, humans are needed to learn from every mistake they make. The human thinking pattern, physical and emotional health contributes significantly in the way the body and mind cooperate and work everyday. Working on these areas can bring significant improvement, and can also form new, positive habits, which can improve social connections, bringing humans closer to survival, reproduction and creating offspring.
