Erik Hahn (* 1983 in Halle (Saale)) is a german Professor of Law.

Hahn studied law at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Leipzig from 2003 until his first law exam in 2008. During this time, he was president of the Leipzig branch of the European Law Students' Association. He completed his second state law examination in 2011 at the State Law Examination Office in Dresden. In 2010, he received his first doctorate from the University of Leipzig (Dr. iur.). From 2008 to 2012, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Medical Law at the Leipzig Faculty of Law u. In the following years, he served as a public prosecutor in Leipzig and then as a judge at the Dresden Social Court.

From 2015 to 2016, Hahn was a Professor at the North German University of Law in Hildesheim. He has received several other offers of professorships in social law (including at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau, the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences and the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences) and has held the professorship for social law and health law at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and Deputy Director of the Görlitz Institute for Health, Ageing, Work and Technology since 2016. He also co-headed the LL.M. program “Medical Law” and lectured in the field of health and social law at Dresden International University. In 2021, Hahn received a second doctorate (Dr. rer. medic.) from the Faculty of Medicine at the Technical University of Dresden with a thesis on the history of medical law. In 2022, he completed his habilitation for the subjects “Public Law, in particular Medical Law and Social Law, as well as European Law”. In the same year, he was appointed as a part-time judge at the Saxon State Social Court (Court of Appeal). Hahn was also appointed Permanent Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law at Riga Stradins University in Latvia, where he teaches European social and health law.

Hahn's research focuses on medical and health law, with a particular emphasis on European law issues and the digitalization of the healthcare system, the entire field of social law, including social insurance, basic social security and social law coordination, the law of social work and services, the law of healthcare professions and legal issues relating to housing. He is the author of over 100 publications consisting of monographs, book chapters and articles in scientific journals.He has held several visiting professorships, scholarships and fellowships, including in the United States (Harvard Law School), Italy (Università degli Studi Roma Tre), Latvia (Rīga Stradiņš University and Banku Augstskola), Greece (International Hellenic University) and China (National Judges College of the People's Republic of China). He is also a member of the European Institute of Social Security (Leuven).

In addition to his work as a professor, Hahn is also a member of the ethics committee of the Saxon State Medical Association and a member of the “ Physicians and Lawyers” working group of the German Association of Scientific Medical Societies. He has practical experience from his work as a social judge and as a member and chairman of various state arbitration boards and state committees in the areas of nursing care and statutory health insurance and dental care.
