Ernan Haruvy is a Canadian Professor of Marketing at McGill University

Career[edit]

Ernan Haruvy was a Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas where he worked on social media virality, pairing university students and companies.[1] He has further worked to show that even in business situations such as bargaining in supply-chain negotiations, bargainers have other-regarding preferences.[2] He then moved to McGill University in Canada, where he worked to further the impact of social media for charity. [3] Haruvy further worked on optimizing performance for non-profit organizations, including the visual art and performing arts.[4] For his work on sustainability in investment, he received the 2023 SSHRC Insight award[5][6]

Academic Contributions[edit]

Ernan Haruvy conducted one of the earlier works in Field Experiments with an experiment on restaurant diners [7], which later became known as Unscrupulous diner's dilemma. That work showed that diners consider more than their own self-interest.

Haruvy has conducted experiments on matching and market design, and his experiments were reviewed in Roth (2016)[8], and on incentives, where his experiments were reviewed in Ariely and Jones (2008).[9] His works on reverse auctions were reviewed in Cortez et al., 2023). [10]

Haruvy works on nonprofit market design[11], public good provision [12], level-k modeling of Cognitive hierarchy theory [13], behavioral finance [14], and other-regarding preferences [15]

Books[edit]

Haruvy is the editor of a handbook of Experimental Finance.[16]

Legal[edit]

Haruvy has been cited in several court cases in Canada, including Gentec v. Nuheara [17] and PSET v. Google[18]
