The Explanada Sanchéz Taboada is located in Mazatlán, next to Paseo Claussen and facing the sea. At this site can be found the Diver, the statue of the Mermaid and several food stalls.[1]
The Sánchez Taboada land belonged to Isaura Valenzuela, who together with her husband, dedicated themselves to construction, collaborating in the explosions that helped open the roads of Cerro de la Nevería. In one of those explosions, a rock band was left aside and it was there where Isaura obtained the deeds, but since it was close to the sea, they were expropriated. He planned two viewpoints and designed a section of the street that today bears his name, he wanted a public recreational site with an ocean view.[2] In 1910 the viewpoints were built and the recreational space was developed. In the 1950s, Paseo Claussen was paved and it was named in honor of the military man Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada who was in Mazatlán as head of the military region that promoted the regeneration of the area with the collaboration of the military under his command. On this esplanade there is a flagpole on which the national flag is placed.[3]
