Fabio Dias is computer scientist, entrepreneur and academic. He is known for co-founding Stalwart Holdings, an issuer of exchange-traded notes on the Vienna Stock Exchange,[1] and for his unconventional teaching style[2] in his financial modelling classes at his secondary occupation at the University of Surrey.
Education
[edit]Dias has a PhD in Econometrics and Statistical Science from University College London and a Master of Science in Statistics from the University of São Paulo.[3] He has a BSc in Computer Science from the University of São Paulo.[4]
Biography
[edit]Dias was born to a poor family in Brazil, getting his first job at the age of 14 as a building assistant at his secondary school.[5] He self-taught computer programming while doing his secondary education, getting his second job as a software developer.[6] He developed a research interest in financial modelling while young in Brazil, and at the age of 22 he was considered an expert by some Brazilian financial media vehicles.[5][7][8]
In 2005, Dias relocated from Brazil to the United Kingdom, joining the technology and risk management department of Credit Suisse and subsequently moving to a senior manager role at Lloyds Banking Group.[6] Concurrently with his professional carreer, he kept an academic role at the University of Surrey. In 2020, he left the banking industry and founded Stalwart Holdings.[5]
Stalwart Holdings
[edit]Stalwart Holdings was conceived from a peer-reviewed publication with Gareth W. Peters[2] on machine learning applied to stock market prediction.[9] The company created an investment product which initially was funded by private placement but later was open to external investors via the issuance of exchange-traded notes.[10]
In addition to the listing on the Vienna Stock Exchange, the company expanded to the field of portfolio optimization and robo-advisory, creating customised portfolios based on investor profiles analysed via artificial intelligence.[11]
