The Faluház is a residential building in the 3rd District of Budapest. The panel building contains 884 housing units and with more than 3000 inhabitants is the biggest residential building of Hungary.
Location
[edit]The Faluház is located in Budapest, in the center of Óbuda, on the western side of Flórián square, close to a kilometer away from Árpád bridge. It creates a separate housing block, which is bordered by Szőlő street from the east, Solymár street from the west, Kiscelli street from the south, and Vörösvári road from the north. The main entrances and parking lot is located on Szőlő street.
Description
[edit]The building is 315 meter long, contains 15 stairwells, all of which have their own house numbers. In addition to the ground floor it has 10 stories, totalling 43 500 m² of floorspace.
Regarding its design, as is the case with a typical panelház, garages, small businesses, and stores located on the ground floor, separated from the street by columns and narrow corridors. Above them, homes are located on all other floors. Instead of balconies, inline terraces were created for the apartments, which don't extend beyond the outer walls of the building, creating a smooth facade, which only breaks at Szőlő st. 74, where the building moves one panel block towards Flórián square, so it can follow the path of the road.
It's possible to travel from the east to the west side of the building in the stairwells on the ground floor. This serves both pedestrian travel, and helps ventilate immediate landscaped environment by equalizing wind pressure between the two sides of the long building.
