Draft:Fanning Grammar School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fanning Grammar School is a former grammar school in Malpeque, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The school, named for Lieutenant Governor Edmund Fanning, was constructed in 1847 and was modified in 1876 to add a second storey. The school operated from its construction until 1969, when the province's schools were consolidated and most one- and two-room schools were closed.

The schoolhouse originally stood at the corner of King Street and Princetown Road in the shire town of Princetown. After its closure, in 1970, it was acquired by the Malpeque Women's Institute, and eventually was given to the community. The building was moved in 1993 to its present location in Cabot Beach Provincial Park, where it operated as a museum for many years.
