Fared (Arabic: فرد) is a Lebanese rapper, music producer, and entrepreneur, best known for founding Erhab Records (Arabic: ارهاب ركوردز), an influential Lebanese independent record label in 1999. The label is notable for pioneering the gangster rap genre in the Arab world, particularly within Lebanon. Fared's work is characterized by its raw, politically charged lyrics that often tackle issues of social injustice, corruption, and resistance. Erhab Records gained prominence with the release of one of the first Arabic-language gangster rap albums in 2001, establishing Fared and his label as key figures in the underground Lebanese music scene.
Early Life
[edit]Fared was born and raised in Lebanon, where he developed an early interest in music, particularly hip-hop. He and his brother Mano were influenced by the socio-political climate of Lebanon, which shaped their musical style and lyrical content.
Career
[edit]In 1999, Fared co-founded Erhab Records with his brother, aiming to provide a platform for artists who shared their vision of resistance through music. The label's first major release in 2001 marked a turning point for Arabic rap, introducing the region to a new, gritty style of music that resonated with many youths.

Fared also became known for his work with incarcerated rappers, going as far as smuggling a studio behind bars to produce music for those who were serving time, amplifying their voices despite their imprisonment.
Legacy
[edit]Fared continues to be an influential figure in Lebanese music, with Erhab Records maintaining its status as a cornerstone of the Arab rap scene. The label has been credited with pushing the boundaries of Arabic music and giving a voice to marginalized communities through its uncompromising artistic vision.
