Filipe Martinho (Torres Vedras, July 2, 2008) is a Portuguese sprinter and hurdler, 3-time Lisbon regional champion and 2-time Torres Vedras municipal
Regional Champion of 60 meters hurdles in Lisbon in 2021 and regional champion of 60 meters sprint also at the same championship as a child. Also, Regional Technical Triathlon Champion in Lisbon 2023 as an Initiated.
Career
Beginning
As a child, he was introduced to the world of athletics through his brother who was already competing at the municipal level, which sparked a sudden passion for athletics in him
First Season (2018)
In his first season (2018), at the age of 9, he was at GDRC PONTERROLENSE where opportunities at the regional level were scarce, only competing at the municipal level.
New club and municipal records
The following year (2019), he joined Casa Benfica TV where he stayed until June 2023. In his first season with the club, he set the municipal record for 40 meters sprint with 06.56 seconds and vortex throw with 28.59 meters as a Benjamim B.
First titles
The beginning was promising as a very young athlete, winning his first regional title in 2021 at the Lisbon Regional Championship for Children in the 60 meters hurdles (10.54s) and 60 meters sprint (08.19s). That same year, he became the Municipal Track Champion for the first time.
Technical Triathlon and Regionals
In 2023, he became the Regional Technical Triathlon Champion for the first time (1210), securing his spot in the National competition in Pombal where he didn't achieve a good result, finishing in 14th place.
The following month, he became the vice-regional champion in the Complete Athlete category (2909), standing on the podium of this competition for the first time.
In May of the same year, he became the vice-regional champion in the 100 meters hurdles at the Regional Championship for Initiates in Lisbon, achieving his personal best time to date with 16.93 seconds.
At the end of the season, he became the Back-to-Back Municipal Track Champion in Torres Vedras.
New season and new team
Martinho started the current 2024 season with a new team, Centro de Atletismo A-dos-Cunhados, at the Winter Regional where he finished in 4th place and achieved his best time in the 60 meters sprint with 7.77 seconds.
In the current season, he set personal records in the 100 meters sprint with 12.14s, 200 meters sprint with 25.39s, and 300 meters sprint with 40.42s.
