The Fordham Graduate Student Workers - Communication Workers of America Local 1104 (FGSW-CWA 1104) is a graduate employee union that is located at Fordham University in New York, New York in the United States. FGSW-CWA represents around 400 graduate employees.

History[edit]

On February 28, 2022, graduate students at Fordham University voted in an "overwhelming majority" to form a graduate employee union in order to reach a collective bargaining agreement with Fordham University.[1]

After Fordham increased student fees and eliminated its COVID protocols over the Summer of 2022, FGSW-CWA filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board arguing that this was a change to the status quo.[2]

FGSW-CWA began the process of collective bargaining in October of 2022.[3]

FGSW-CWA released a letter campaign that asks the Fordham community to write letters to the Fordham administration demanding that Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) be banned across the University.[4] Members cited Fordham's history of mismanaging sexual assault and harassment.[5]

On April 24, 2023, FGSW-CWA went on strike in a 3-Day walkout.[6]

In February 2024, FGSW-CWA 1104 filed another Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board after Fordham removed FGSW members who were flyering prospective students from the campus area.[7]
