George Hopkins is the long time equipment manager for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He has been with the team since 1977 and worked his 1000 game in August 2022.[1] He was recognized as one of the all time greats in the builder category when he was added to the Stampeder's Wall of Fame in 2014.[2]
In the 1993 season, Hopkins started the Black Betty day tradition. On one day during training camp versions of the song Black Betty by Ram Jam is played on repeat. It is a tradition that players look forward to every year.[3]
