Gian Marco Chiarini is a retired Italian Lieutenant General with a distinguished military career.

Military Leadership: Chiarini served in various leadership positions throughout his career. He commanded the Italian Ariete tank brigade, a prestigious role. He also held command of the Italian Joint Task Force in Iraq during Operation Ancient Babylon, stationed in Nassiriya. Later, he became Deputy Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in Germany and Commanded the EUFOR mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Iraq War: Chiarini's leadership during the Iraq War was particularly noteworthy. He demonstrated exceptional professionalism, bravery, and organizational skills. He effectively communicated the mission's importance to his troops and instilled confidence during challenging times. News reports indicate he even survived a direct attack. His diplomatic skills were also recognized for fostering dialogue with various Iraqi factions.

NATO and EU Roles: Chiarini served as the Italian Military Representative to NATO and held the position of Italian Representative to the Military Committees of both NATO and the European Union.
