  • Comment: This game unfortunately does not appear to meet Wikipedia's general notability guidelines, with the reliability of sources in use here being questionable. I do, however, see a decent chance this game becomes notable later on, likely on release. But that's not now. I recommend taking a look at WP:VG/S for a list of reliable sources, plus WP:RSP for reliable sources in general. λ NegativeMP1 14:27, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

The gameplay of Glory to the Heroes is similar to that of Squad. Each class has its own weapon and task on the battlefield.[9] Multiplayer maps will be able to support up to 100 players.[10] Battles will take place in real locations in Ukraine.[11] Each faction has its own gear, weapons, and vehicles, offering a wide variety of equipment to choose from.[10]

Development[edit]

The first trailer was released on May 7th 2022. Showing a battle in an urban settlement.[13] The first devblog was posted to the dev team's Youtube account on December 22nd 2022.[14] On February 2nd 2023, gameplay footage depicting a trench defense during the Battle of Bakhmut was uploaded to Spacedev Games' Instagram account.[15] Another devblog posted to their Youtube account on September 9th 2023 showed the dev team driving to the Donbas Oblast and using 3D scanning technology to scan building and destroyed military equipment in order to create 3D models for the game. The dev team described it as "capturing the essence of this war-torn landscape for Glory To The Heroes like never before in game development history".[16] On January 24th 2023, the game's Snake Island map was shown off in a video uploaded to Spacedev Games' Youtube account.[17] In 2023 it was nominated at the Indie Cup for the "Most Promising Game Award" and the "Most Anticipated Game Award".[18] At the event, more gameplay footage was shown including the game's gunplay, dynamic time and weather system, constructable and destructible environments, night vision, drone operator gameplay and showed off the game's classes.[19] On July 25th 2023, the dev team posted an image of the game's Marinka map on their X (formerly Twitter) account.[20] On January 16th 2024, they posted images of the game's Izium map on their X account.[21]

Controversy[edit]

In March 2023, Spacedev Games studio Chief developer, Serhii Voronov said in an interview that here will be an opportunity to play as Russian soldiers in the game's muliplayer.[22] In the interview, Serhii said: "There are elements in the game that play it authentically. For example, the panic attack mechanic. We plan to implement it on the Irpin-Bucha map with the center at the Giraffe supermarket. This is a tragic location, and the Russians will have a small debuff there: when the player walks around the map, he can "catch" a panic attack. The screen starts to shake, the ears ring - a simulation of playing for a person who committed war crimes is taking place."[22] Voronov and his team later found themselves under a wave of criticism. On April 4th, the developers made an announcement on Twitter (now known as X) that there will be no multiplayer mode in the game yet, as well as the ability to play as Russian forces.[23] But they were still periodically criticized for the very idea of making a game about a war that is going on right now. Even receiving death threats.[24] Spacedev Games later said in a post on their Twitter account that they still have plans on doing everything that they having promised to include. Including the multiplayer game mode.[25]
