Goil Amornvivat is a Thai-American architect, educator, and television personality based in Brooklyn, New York.  Amornvivat was born in Bangkok, Thailand and educated in the United States. He is the founding partner of AMMOR Architecture in New York City. He also works as an on-air television presenter and design expert and was a competitor in several reality show design competitions.[1] [2] His career in television is driven in part by a desire to increase visibility of Asians in the United States and to broaden perceptions of Asian male identities.[3]  He serves on the Dean's Council[4] of the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and is the Vice President of the Williamsburg Biannual.[5]

Goil Amornvivat's Thai name is ก๋อย อุรพงษ์ อมรวิวัฒน์.  An accepted alternative English spelling of his last name is Amornwiwat.

Personal life[edit]

Goil Amornvivat was born in Bangkok, Thailand and resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He is a son of  Thai politician Sompong Amornvitvat (สมพงษ์ อมรวิวัฒน์) and mother Pecharee Amornvivat.[6][7] He is a graduate of Eaglebrook School,[8][9] Carnegie Mellon University,[10] and Yale University School of Architecture. His life and business partner is Tom Morbitzer.

Goil Amornvivat co-founded TUG Studio[11][12] with Tom Morbitzer in 2006, renamed as AMMOR Architecture in 2007.[13][14] AMMOR's projects have been published widely.

Television work[edit]

Goil Amornvivat was a competitor and semi-finalist on the first season of Bravo's Top Design.[26] After Top Design, Amornvivat was an invited guest on early episodes of Bravo: Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen and an On-Screen Design Expert on ABC: The View[27] and TLC's Trading Spaces[28] In addition, Amornvivat was the Set Designer for Mad Fashion[29] with Chris March, Discovery Science Channel: Head Games! and Discovery Investigation Discovery: Behind Mansion Walls with Christopher Mason. Goil Amornvivat won the "Color Challenge" of HGTV's White Room Challenge.[30]
