Green Cross United Kingdom is the British affiliate of Green Cross International,[1] an international non-governmental Organization founded by former Soviet leader Mijaíl Gorbachov|MikhailGorbachev in 1993 to "foster a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future", building upon the work started by the 1992 Earth Summit in Río de Janeiro, Brazil. [2]

Green Cross International operates in over 30 countries and enjoys consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Green Croos International is an admitted observer organization with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. It cooperates directly with the UNEP/OCHA Environmental Emergencies Section, UN-HABITAT among other international Organizations.[1]

Green Cross United Kingdom is an independent organization that operates in multiple countries, with a focus on promoting sustainable development by the execution of programmes and initiatives regarding:[3][4]

Climate Positive Awards[edit]

Green Cross United Kingdom hosted an awards ceremony to recognize leaders in the public and private sectors to celebrate their sustainable actions. The event was a platform to honour entities who have demonstrated commitment to environmental responsibility and have made contributions towards creating a more sustainable future.[5]

Green Cross UK also presented the Climate Positive Awards for 2021, in recognition  of the work of leaders in slowing global warming and increasing global protection by 30% by 2030.
