Green Youth (Spanish: Juventud Verde; abbr. JV) also known as the Equo Young Network (its official name until March 2021), is defined as a political youth organization related to Greens Equo that seeks to add the greatest number of wills in favor of a dignified, progressive and respectful society with people, environment and the planet.
The organization is an autonomous entity that has been considered as the youth reference of Greens Equo.[1] political party since its founding in 2011. It is closely linked to political environmentalism both at the state level, where it has an agreement with the Youth Council of Spain, and at the European level, where it is a member of the Federation of Young European Greens[2], which in turn is part of the Young Global Greens.
As a result of the division of EQUO after betting on going with Más País to the 2019 general elections, that same year, both the youth and their leading party changed their corporate identity and old name to Green Youth. This represented a clear approach to the European green movement and a new stage characterized by a close relationship with its international counterparts.
Green Youth is part of a diverse space linked to the Spanish environmental left and shares a strategy with regional youth entities such as Joves Ecosocialistes, Jóvenes Más Madrid and Joves del PV-Compromís. Likewise, it collaborates in events and political campaigns with national youths such as Jóvenes de Izquierda Unida and Rebeldía.

EQUO was a political party resulting from the convergence of the Spanish green movement that, after having failed to achieve an attempt to regenerate the Confederation of the Greens, motivated a movement to refound the green political space that materialized on June 4, 2011[3]
The Equo Young Network was one of the transversal networks that, together with women's network and LGBTIQ+ network, brought together members and sympathizers of EQUO. Thus, the youth entity was established as an associative movement, being the leading youth organization of EQUO and defining itself as environmentalist and progressive.
The ideological reference of the youth federation at the state level was EQUO and, therefore, it was conceived as its mother party. At the European level, the European Green Party was its reference and regarding youths, the European reference was the Federation of Young European Greens.
Program[edit]
The main goals of Green Youth are the creation of an organizational space for youth that shares the principles of political ecology, the promotion of associative youth participation and the approach to politics, as instruments to achieve objectives of ecological transition and social justice.
The implementation of political ecology in the ideological, political and organic sphere of youth. The dissemination of an economic, social and productive model of life in accordance with social justice, sustainability, human rights, participatory democracy and the defense of the Welfare State. The creation of a project to transform society from ecology and the training of the members in the political sphere.
The implementation of political actions such as the promotion of horizontal and transparent models in decision-making, the application of participation dynamics in public institutions and organizations in which to participate and collaborate with political movements and social agents.
Organization[edit]
To fulfill its purposes, the youth federation organizes its activities through a collectively approved work structure. To do this, an annual project is presented to each area and work groups where objectives, necessary resources and specific actions are represented and available to the members, as well as an evaluation of the work carried out in the previous year.
Juventud Verde is a federal structure made up of regional and island associations. Thus, the different groups with autonomous and insular areas of work that together make up the federal organization of Green Youth are called territorial groups. These groups have autonomy to make decisions in their territories, always following the ideology of Juventud Verde.
The associations federated to Juventud Verde must be registered in the registry of youth associations of their Autonomous Community, without their statutes contradicting those of Juventud Verde. Likewise, the request for federation is approved by the Federal Assembly of the youth organization and the territorial association itself. This, in turn, must comply with the common basic structure of federated Green Youth associations.

Permanent Commission[edit]
The Permanent Commission and the co-spokespersons are the highest management and representation positions of the organization, which are elected in the General Assembly every two years. This body is made up of a minimum of four and a maximum of seven members who assume internal coordination roles, of which two are co-spokespersons.
Currently, and since 2011, the Permanent Commission of Green Youth has been composed equally and with special attention to diversity. Thus, there have been several periods differentiated by the co-spokespersons in the youth entity. The following table shows the elected co-spokespersons:

Militants[edit]
In its more than ten years of history, Green Youth has claimed to be a useful organization for the creation of new political cadres that its reference political organization has later claimed. General Assemblies are one of the main tools for the formation of militants, as well as other events, camps and training.
Politicians and policies with notable institutional history have passed through Juventud Verde, such as the first green deputy of the Region of Murcia Helena Vidal Brazales, the Valencian deputy for Compromís and member of Verds Equo Paula Espinosa and the former coordinator of southern Europe in the Federation of Young European Greens Antonio G. González.
On the other hand, it has also given great importance to citizen participation and collaboration with environmental NGOs such as Fridays For Future, Extinction Rebellion and Vegetal Future. Other ecosocialist political platforms have also collaborated with Green Youth, among which the close relations with the organization Joves Ecosocialistes and in turn the Federation of Young European Greens stand out.
