GreyB Services Pvt. Ltd. is a technology-driven research and analytics company headquartered in Singapore and operating in Mohali and Gurgaon, India [1]. It conducts patent and technology landscape research for companies and law firms. GreyB was founded by Deepak Syal, Chakshu Kalra, and Avneet Bansal in 2008.

On June 26, 2006, Deepak started his intellectual property (IP) solutions firm ‘Echo Mirror’ with Chakshu and Avneet to build tools and technologies for companies in the space.[2]

After relocating from Gurgaon to Chandigarh due to operational challenges, the firm was rebranded as GreyB in 2008 and established its headquarters in Singapore. The company has since expanded its operations to Gurgaon and the United States, becoming a multinational IP services provider.[3][2]

2009 GreyB received ISO 9001:2008, affirming its commitment to quality management.[4]

In 2022, GreyB became a founding board member of the Global IP Alliance.[5][6]

GreyB offers a range of software tools and innovation consulting services in various sectors, including telecommunications, pharma/biotech, semiconductors, medical devices, automobiles, networking, software, material science, chemicals, and consumer electronics. Since 2007, GreyB has worked on 7,398 projects with 1,012 clients across 52 countries.[7]

Their proprietary tools include SLATE, Elixir, Spotter, and IDS Manager.

  • SLATE: A centralized patent data organization and analysis platform.[8]
  • IDS Manager: A platform that automates most of the IDS filing process and saves time.[9]
  • Elixir: GreyB’s drug patent monitoring tool for tracking patent lifecycle events.[10]
  • Spotter: An offline search engine that scans and stores data exclusively on on-premise servers[11]

Open Innovation Services[edit]

GreyB offers many technology consultation services on open innovation. Their most important facets are technology scouting, product and technology road mapping, technology and market research, startup scouting, technology landscape analysis, and patent landscape analysis.

Patent Search[edit]

GreyB offers several patent search services, such as system prior-art searches, freedom-to-operate searches, and validity/invalidity searches. The company has worked through 7398 projects since 2007 with 1012 clients across 52 countries.

Patent Landscape Search[edit]

GreyB provides interactive dashboards and dedicated support for competitive landscape analysis projects. The company's analysis also helps in collaborations and partnerships, planning geographical business expansion, etc.

Patent Monetization and Infringement Analysis[edit]

GreyB offers infringement analysis using investigative search through research scientists and AI-powered tools, such as their patent ranking tool. The patent ranking engine assists in competitive analysis, patent excavation study, patent portfolio monetization, and patent acquisitions.[12]

Name and branding[edit]

According to Deepak Syal, the company’s name, 'GreyB,' combines the ideologies of two words: Grey Matter (Grey) and Bee (B). This combination showcases company traits: ‘Grey Matter’ represents intelligence, and ‘Bee’ represents hard work.

Partnerships and Collaboration[edit]

In July 2017, GreyB formed a strategic alliance with PatSnap, a global Intellectual Property Analytics company backed by Sequoia.[13][14]

In May 2019, GreyB partnered with Kilpatrick Townsend, an American multinational law firm, to perform a patent-trends study across 12 patent-intensive industries[15]. The article was referenced on IPWatchdog[16] and Business Insider[17].

GreyB cooperated with Amplified to publish a preliminary report containing a detailed 5G standard essential patents (SEP) analysis.The project's stated aim is ‘to bring greater transparency to the 5G standard essential patents landscape.[18][19]
