Introduction

Guillermo Enrique Avellán Solines (Guayaquil, june 4th 1986) is an ecuadorian economist. Avellán attended Colegio Javier, a Jesuit high school, where he did community service in the poorest areas of his hometown and became the Treasurer of the Student Council during his senior year. He is the current General Manager at the Central Bank of Ecuador.

Education

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in business economics with a minor in finance from the University of Richmond, where he was granted the "Omicron Delta Epsilon" graduation award for high academic merit in economics and the Wallenstein Award from the Virginia Association of Social Sciences for the best undergraduate thesis. Avellán obtained his master’s degree in economic analysis from the Barcelona School of Economics. He also studied macroprudential policies and gold reserves management at Columbia University.

He was President of Ecuador’s Public Debt Committee between June 2021 and August 2022[1] Since June 2021, he has been the General Manager of the Central Bank of Ecuador.[2].
