The Höfner 500/5 Bass, also known as the Sutcliffe Bass, the Höfner 333, the Reeperbahn Bass, or mistakenly the President Bass, is an electric bass made by Höfner.

History[edit]

The 500/5 Bass started to be manufactured in 1957 and stopped production in 1979.[1]

Stuart Sutcliffe[edit]

The bass became known for Stuart Sutcliffe, who after going to the Casbah Coffee Club one night was persuaded by John Lennon and Paul McCartney to buy a model for on hire-purchase from Frank Hessey's Music Shop.[2][3][4]
