HapaSpace Hub is an innovation hub located in Ghana, dedicated to providing professional business development services and fostering creativity and collaboration within its startup community. Founded in 2016, HapaSpace aims to support young entrepreneurs in building successful and sustainable ventures by leveraging technology and hands-on business training.[1][2] The hub places the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the core of its operations, striving for global economic development.

HapaSpace is renowned for its state-of-the-art co-working spaces, project implementation capabilities, and event organization. The hub was co-founded by Mr. Gideon Brefo and Mr. Albert Opoku, who envisioned a collaborative environment to nurture innovation and drive business success.[3]

Operations[edit]

The hub's operations are centered on creating an enabling environment for start-ups and entrepreneurs by focusing on four (4) key areas: project implementation, co-working spaces, events, and business support training.

Project[edit]

Through effective project management, collaborations, stakeholder engagement, progress monitoring and evaluation, HapaSpace Hub has successfully implemented a diverse range of projects, including:

  • The Hatched Project: An Indigo Trust-funded incubation program that validates startups to become sustainable and successful ventures.[4][5]
  • The Thrive Project: An acceleration program designed to propel businesses towards the ideal stage of growth and expansion, enabling them to thrive.[6][7]
  • The NEIP Project: Provides business development services, incubation facilities, and financial assistance to young enterprises, fostering their growth.[8][9]
  • The AfriConEU Project: Empowers digital innovation hubs across Africa through capacity building and networking opportunities.[10][11][12]
  • The Smart Woman DigiWorks Project: A collaborative effort between HapaSpace and GIZ, equipping 150 women in Adjamesu, Bekwai district, with mobile technology skills to enhance their economic activities and business growth.[13][14][15]
  • The Jobs for Youth Project: Funded by GIZ and the British Council, this initiative alleviates unemployment among 80 youth in Ghana by leveraging their skills and local economic opportunities to create sustainable jobs.[16]
  • The Active Citizens Project: In partnership with HapaWeb Solutions, this project encouraged 25 citizens to proactively address common global challenges, exemplified by the KayaApp groceries initiative.[17]
  • The SNV Green Project: Supported 8 participating SMEs in integrating green practices into their operations, enhancing environmental sustainability.[18]
  • The Code4Girls Project: Funded by Google in 2018, the Code4Girls Project introduced coding to 10 Senior High Schools. initiative supports the government's ICT education efforts and accentuates HapaSpace's commitment to advancing STEM education in Ghana, especially among women.[19][20]

Co-working spaces[edit]

HapaSpace Hub offers state-of-the-art co-working spaces that serve as an incubation facility for startups during project implementation. Currently hosting 10 resident companies, these spaces provide a professional environment for their business operations. Additionally, the hub accommodates walk-in clients who utilize the space and high-speed internet for their work needs.[22][23]

Business development services[edit]

Entrepreneurs and innovators are empowered to succeed in their businesses through workshops, expert-led training, resources, capacity building, partnership-building, consultancy, and project research.[24]

HapaSpace has earned local and international recognition from prestigious organizations such as the European Union, German Corporation, British Council, GIZ and FMO Ventures to implement projects.[32]The Hub has cultivated a thriving community of over two thousand members, including the Kumasi Art Community, Kumasi Tech Community, and Kumasi Art Community. Also, HapaSpace has impacted more than 500 startups through its comprehensive support programs.[33]
