Havurah (Hebrew: חֲבוּרָה) is an independent Jewish art collective and media company publishing and promoting contemporary Jewish art. The collective, founded in 2022 in New York City, is made up of hundreds of Jewish creatives around the world. Havurah began to gain popularity on Instagram in 2023, primarily among the Jewish internet world. The collective also organizes live events, concerts, and gallery shows of Jewish Art in NYC.
Havurah's media exists online, as well as in their quarterly printed magazine, Verklempt! Verklempt!.[1]
Origins[edit]
Havurah was created in 2022 by the founding board of Eitan Gutenmacher, Daniella Messer, Yoni Gutenmacher, Leah Dunn, Lindsay Leboyer, David Gutenmacher, and Chaim Avezov. The collective emerged from their vision to create a community where Jewish artists could intertwine their religious identities with their artistic expressions. The launch event for Verklempt!, their quarterly print magazine, took place at Kistuné in the West Village.
Supported by funding from Next Gen Inc., a subsidiary of the World Jewish Congress and World Union of Jewish Students, Havurah aims to foster a unique blend of art, performance, and Jewish spirituality, providing a platform for young Jewish creatives to showcase their work.
