Hijra is an upcoming road movie directed by Shahad Ameen.[1]

Premise[edit]

Hijra follows Sitti (Namzi) and her two granddaughters on their travels from Taif to Mecca and the search that ensues when one of the granddaughters disappears.[1]

Production[edit]

Ameen developed Hijra for three years alongside filmmaker Mohamed Al-Daradji of Iraq, who would serve as producer. Other producers include include Biet Ameen Production, the Iraqi Independent Film Center, the Saudi company Ideation Studio, the Red Sea Film Festival Foundation, and Film Al-Ula. The project is supported by the Saudi Film Commission's Daw Initiative and received filming incentives from Neom.[1]

In May 2024, Variety reported that the project was being filmed in Jeddah, Medina, Al-Ula and Neom as well as in the desert of Saudi Arabia.[1]
