Kuropyatnykov Hryhoriy Olexandrovych (Ukrainian: Куроп'ятников Григорій Олександрович, January 24 1921 - February 25 1982) — Hero of the Soviet Union, commander of the division of miners of the SK-065 patrol boat of the 5th division of patrol boats of the Protection of the Water District of the Black Sea Fleet, petty officer of the II article.

Biography[edit]

He was born on January 24, 1921 in the city of Yelisavetgrad. He worked as a turner at the Kirovohrad factory of agricultural machines "Chervona Zirka" (now the Elworthy factory)

Served in the Border Troops of the NKVD of the USSR since 1939. He graduated from the weapons school in Sevastopol, after which he was assigned to the SKA-125 boat of the 4th Black Sea Detachment of Border Vessels of the Ukrainian Border District [1].

Participant of the World War II , since June 22, 1941. When the detachment of border vessels was transferred to the Black Sea Fleet Hryhoriy Kuropyatnikov first fought as a machine gunner, and from September 1941 - as a commander of a division of miners. Took part in military operations at the mouth of the Danube in the summer of 1941, in the defense of Odessa and Sevastopol. In December 1941, his boat was transferred to the Tuapse Naval Base, as part of it he landed landings on the Kerch Peninsula in December 1941 and evacuated the defeated troops of the Crimean Front from there in May 1942, defended the Caucasian coast in 1942, participated in the landing amphibious assaults near Novorossiysk in February 1943 during the Battle of the Caucasus.

On March 25, 1943, Hryhoriy Kuropyatnikov, repelling the attack of Nazi aircraft with machine gun fire in the area of ​​the village of Divnomorskoe (now in the administration of the city of Gelendzhik), prevented the death of the boat. In this battle, he was seriously wounded in the chest and head, and lost his left arm.

By decree of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union dated July 24, 1943, for "exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and demonstrated courage and heroism at the same time" Hryhoriy Oleksandrovych Kuropyatnikov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award the "Gold Star" medal.

After leaving the hospital at the end of 1943, he was appointed commandant of the coastal base in the fleet. In May 1944, Kuropyatnikov was demobilized due to disability. Lived in Kirovohrad. He worked as a dispatcher. Died February 25, 1982 [2].
