Dr. Husam Naim Abdel Aziz Shakhshir (born March 4 1958), an academic and expert in political Islam and international humanitarian law, holds a PhD in History from Mutah University in Jordan. His roles have varied from regional advisor for Islamic affairs at the International Committee of the Red Cross to Vice President of Municipality of Nablus, contributing to enhancing dialogue and integrating international humanitarian law in academic and community circles He was elected by the municipal council members to become the mayor of Nablus. He has significant contributions in academic research and humanitarian work, known for his political analysis and crisis management skills.

Dr. Husam Naim Abdel Aziz Shakhshir was born in Nablus, Palestine, where he started his primary education and pursued his higher education in fields reflecting his deep interests in the Middle East and its issues. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern Studies from Birzeit University in Palestine, paving the way for him to delve deeper into the history and politics of the region. Later, he completed a Master's degree in Modern History of the Middle East from The American University in Cairo, Egypt, where he focused his research on the history of Muhammad Ali Pasha, the Ottoman ruler of Egypt. Continuing his academic journey, Dr. Shakhshir earned a PhD in History from Mutah University in Jordan, specializing in the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in conflicts in Yemen, Libya, and Syria.
