History

[edit]

Paul Mishkin founded IXL Learning in 1998 with the website Quia Web, which was one of the most popular education sites in the early days of the Internet. In 2001, IXL Learning debuted Quia Books, which contains over 450 test books.[1]

In 2007, IXL.com launched. IXL was primarily made to be a math platform, but over time it has grown to further include Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish as major subjects.

In more recent years (2018-2024), IXL Learning has acquired various other companies. First was ABCya, a major educational gaming site, and then, in the following year of 2019, Education.com. Vocabulary.com followed in the next year. 2021 saw the acquisition of two new subsidiaries: Rosetta Stone and Wyzant. Curiosity Media and Emmerison followed in 2022 and Teachers Pay Teachers came in 2023. Most recently, IXL purchased Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com.[2] 2019, IXL came out with an Android phone App. An IPad app released back in 2014.[3]
