Immich is a free and open-source self-hosted image management and backup application designed to be an alternative to applications such as Google Photos.[1] It is still in active development, and the developers do not recommend using it as one's only photo backup application.[2]
Features
[edit]Immich functions similarly to applications such as Google Photos. Photos and videos from the user's device can be automatically or manually uploaded to the server, and accessed via a mobile app or a web application.[1][3] Immich also uses machine learning algorithms to categorize photos[4] and to detect photos that are similar to each other.[5] Android users can specify folders on their device to back up.[2] Users can also bulk upload images.[6]
Immich features a map showing where photos were taken based on exif data.[7]
The mobile app features a photo editor.[8]
Reception
[edit]Robert Triggs of Android Authority praised Immich for its ease of use and similar user interface to Google Photos and called it "almost solid enough to use as a daily driver," while criticizing its integration into existing photo libraries.[2]
