International School of Nagano (abbreviated as ISN) (Japanese: インターナショナル・スクール・オブ・長野) is a an Elementary and Preschool learning institution located in Nagano prefecture, Japan. International School of Nagano is accredited by Japan's Ministry of Education (MEXT), and teaches the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP).[1] The school is active in the local community and promoting Nagano prefecture.[2][3]

Campuses

[edit]

The school facilities currently comprise five campuses, all located within Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

  • ISN Minami Matsumoto Campus
  • ISN Shimauchi Campus
  • ISN Gojo Campus
  • ISN Nagano Campus
  • ISN Nakano Campus[4]

The Gojo and Nakano campuses have been established in renovated, previously unused, public school buildings, in partnership with the local government, as a way of promoting sustainability.[5]

Program

[edit]

ISN offers a four-year Preschool program (Age 2-6), an Elementary school program (Grades 1-6) and a Middle school program (Grades 7-9).[6] As an official International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the Preschool and Elementary school programs ISN offers are in line with the IB philosophy, rules and regulations.[7] ISN is the only school in Nagano prefecture to teach the Primary Years Program.[8]

Additionally, all Grade 1-9 programs are aligned with the Japanese government elementary- and middle-school programs, while the preschool programs function as government certified childcare institutions.[9]

History

[edit]

The school was founded in 2012 in Matsumoto City, Nagano, Japan, where it is still headquartered. The school expanded to its second campus in 2017, followed by a further expansion to several more campuses.[10][11]
