Irena Kain (née Goral), born in 1957, in Poznan, Poland

Irena Kain completed her medical studies at the Medical Academy in Poznan. After graduating, she worked as an ophthalmologist at the University Clinic in Poznan and later at the University Clinic in Munich. In Poland, she served as the secretary of the Retinology Section of the Polish Ophthalmological Society.

In 1988, Irena Kain moved to Germany and in 1989 to Switzerland. In Riehen/ Basel, she founded a gallery for contemporary art, representing artists such as Edward Dwurnik, Leo Erb, Mariusz Kruk, Elisabeth Mase, Turi Simeti, Robert Schad. She was also a member of the Commission for Visual Arts of the Municipality of Riehen and worked as a curator and art consultant at Kunstraum Riehen. Irena Kain is still the member of the Honorary Patronage of the Art Commission in Riehen..[1]

In 2006, she moved to Spain and in 2008 to Berlin. Since then, she has been working as a freelance curator and art consultant. Since 2012, she has been a patron member of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts by the National Gallery Zacheta in Warsaw[2]
