Irina Mashinski (Russian: Ирина Викторовна Машинская), born 9 April 1958, is a Russian-American poet and essayist.
Biography[edit]
Mashinski was born in Moscow in 1958.[1] She received her Ph.D. in 1991 from Moscow University (Paleogeography and the Theory of Landscape).[2] During Perestroika, she founded “Bullfinch,” a children’s literary studio in Moscow. In 1991, she moved to the US, where she taught high school mathematics as well as history and meteorology at several universities.
In the USSR was a member of an unofficial literary group Sokilniki. Upon her emigration started publishing in various journals in Russia, Europe, and the US. She is co-editor, with Robert Chandler and Boris Dralyuk, of The Penguin Book of Russian Poetry (Penguin Classics, 2015). Mashinski is a co-founder, with Oleg Woolf. and current editor-in-chief, of the Cardinal Points/Стороны Света literary Project. Co-editor, with Robert Chandler and Boris Dralyuk, of the Cardinal Points, the journal of Brown University’s Slavic Department.

Mashinski is the recipient of several Russian literary awards and, with Boris Dralyuk, of the First Prize in the 2012 Joseph Brodsky / Stephen Spender Translation Prize competition. Pushcart (2023) nomination (Giornata).[citation needed]
