Ironwood is a 2017 American road trip buddy comedy written and directed by Shahin Izadi (in his theatrical debut[1]). It stars Aaron Moten, Cameron Scoggins, and Kathleen Wise. In the film, two friends competing for a university teaching position are joined on a camping trip by a female faculty member who they will do whatever they can to impress.

Plot[edit]

Best friends and philosophy grad students, Devin and Caleb, based in Madison, Wisconsin find themselves up for the same competitive teaching position in Michigan, of which they make up two out of three finalists.

After a long drive, a run-in with Caleb's ecstasy dealer, and a few hours of sleep at a motel, they make it to their interview. The third applicant, who they were told would be interviewing with them, is nowhere in sight.

The pair go to a bar where they run into a female faculty member, Jane McGinnis. She shows interest in joining them on their camping trip in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The three set out on an awkward trip where they are forced to explore the realities of gender and race in academia as well as their own priorities and relationships in life, and to each other.
