History

[edit]

Pekka Siimestö founded Järvenpään Kansallisseura after the interim peace, and he was elected as its first chairman. After Siimestö's death, G.M. Ikonen registered the association in 1947, starting an active period of operation. Initially, the association met in its members' homes, organizing cultural events at the Seurojentalo. Chairpersons, such as Lasse Poutiainen and Eino Hynninen, guided the association, initially focusing on electoral alliances until 1968 when Kokoomus began participating independently in municipal elections.

During the 1960s, under the chairmanship of Veijo Kokkonen, the association experienced growth, attracting new members from Järvenpää. In 1975, the association's name changed to Järvenpään Kokoomus Ry, aligning with the National Coalition Party's direction. Matti Auranen, one of the longest-serving chairpersons, represented the association in the 1980s and 1990s. With growth, special associations were established, such as Järvenpään Kokoomuksen Nuoret and Naiset, along with other local associations.

In 2008, Järvenpään Kokoomus merged with Järvipuiston Kokoomus, simplifying local organization. The votes Kokoomus has received in Järvenpää's municipal elections have been significant, often exceeding 25%, enabling strong representation and influence in local government. Kokoomus's role in the development of Järvenpää's services and administration has been considerable, reflecting widely in the city's activities and development.[2]
