Early Life[edit]

Jordan Cameron Stayton was born on June 17, 1994 in St. Louis, Missouri. His mother and his step-father raised Jordan in the city of St. Louis, Missouri before moving to Atlanta, Georgia for a better life. His family would soon relocate north to a small city out side of Atlanta called Dacula. Throughout trips back and forth to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia and his native town of Saint Louis, Missouri his parents would play countless R&B and Hip-Hop classics. The music being played would create the love Jordan had for the art. His mother and uncle both had former backgrounds in music. His mother, a self-proclaimed singer and his uncle a lead guitarist and drummer in a rock band. Music was very present in Jordan’s life from birth which would lead to his interest in becoming a musician.

Jordan taught himself to sing by mimicking the songs he would hear his mother singing in their household. “I’ve always been around music since an early age. My mother used to be a part of a girl’s group in our hometown of St. Louis, Missouri and my uncle is part of a rock band (Concrete God). Growing up both my Uncle and my mother integrated music as a part of my life, so much that they probably did not even realize they were doing so. As a child, hearing my mother sing her favorite artists around the house such as Tony Braxton and Mary J. Blige, I would try to mimic the exact song she would sing. This would spark my interest in singing.”[1]

Jordan attended Dacula High School in Gwinnett County. However, in 2012 Jordan would drop-out of high school to pursue his G.E.D. After completion of the G.E.D program, he would later attend college at Savannah State University only to soon drop out of schooling once more.

Career[edit]

2012-2018: Musical Beginnings[edit]

At the age of 18, Jordan and a childhood friend would end up joining a church group called Cajo University under the lead of American Christian hip-hop artist Canton Jones. Jordan’s time with Canton would expose him to the early entries of a musician’s daily lifestyle. From touring the city of Atlanta, to shooting music videos, to recording songs, Jordan had experienced the amount of work it took to become a recording artist.

Taking note of all the things he had learned from Canton as well as his peers who were also pursuing music careers at the time; he would inquire more about what it took to become a recording artist. A few years after dropping out of college in 2016, Jordan decided to take his music career serious and see how far his career would go. He would begin investing in musical equipment and learn the music industry as a whole. “In 2018, I began my studying of the music industry, I purchased a MacBook, some KRK speakers, an interface, and a broken Rode NT1-A that Jahreem had given me to start the process of recording myself. [1]

2019-Present: 'Act Up'[edit]

In 2019, he would go on to record his first single “Act Up”. Upon uploading the music video in October of 2019, “Act Up” would go on to generate 54 thousand streams digitally.

J Cameron would follow up his second single “Reservation” in 2020 and in 2022 his 3rd single “Bounce It”.
