Jacob Miller (1789 – August 5, 1861) was an American business owner and one of the earliest settlers of Lake County, Illinois. He organized the Milk Shippers' Association, which connected the dairy trade for residents between Burlington, Wisconsin and Chicago. The tributary of the Des Plaines River known as Mill Creek was named by him and the village of Old Mill Creek was subsequently named after it.^[1]

Biography

Jacob was born from his father Elder Daniel Miller Sr. and his mother Anna Garber in the small community of Green Mount in Rockingham County, Virginia. His tombstone reads that he was born in 1769, though this is considered to be an error as his mother would have only been seven at the time. If we are to believe the 1850 US Census, it would mean that Jacob was born sometime around 1789.
