After completing nephrology fellowship, Uribarri joined the Renal Faculty Division in the same institution as an Instructor in Medicine and became an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 1982. In 1990, he joined the Nephrology Division at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as an Assistant Professor in Medicine. [11]. He was promoted to Professor of Medicine in 2006. In 1997, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha, a national honor medical society, by medical students. [12] A recording of a 2017 lecture titled "Update on Peritoneal Dialysis" is available here.

Uribarri has served as the principal investigator of several pharmaceutical industry funded and National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded clinical trials.
