From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jimmy Wilson (birthdate needed) is a blues / jazz / funk trumpet player known for his contemporary jazz group "Fastlife", for his extensive work as a studio and live musician, and as an early adopter and pioneering player of the Morrison Digital Trumpet.

Early Years[edit]

Under the tutelage of his grandfather (trumpet virtuoso and bandmaster James H. Wilson, Sr), Jimmy began playing the trumpet at the age of six and later studied under the late bandmaster A. Jack Thomas. Whilst performing with the Army band and whilst attending the preparatory department of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Jimmy explored various music genres - - most notably blues, funk, and jazz.

Career[edit]

After completing his studies at the Peabody Conservatory, Jimmy immersed himself in the East Coast jazz music scene, performing live with a variety of artists including guitarists Larry Coryell and Nathan Page, bass guitarists Gerald Veasley and Scott Ambush, electronic violinist Mark Wood, vocalists Bobby Rydell and recording artist Maysa Leak (Incognito), and renowned drummers Chester Thompson and Dennis Chambers.

Jimmy was featured playing horns and the Morrison Digital Trumpet on numerous recordings including "Phase One" (Grainger Brothers), "Secret Rendevous" (Slim Man), and the latest release from electric violinist, Brian Silber.

Jimmy was the founding member and bandleader of successful contemporary jazz band "Fastlife" and performed with numerous East Coast regional artists, including extensive session work as a studio musician, covering an eclectic collection of musical genres.

Jimmy co-produced his first album "Identity" (1994) with Lamont T. Battle, a Baltimore, MD USA based producer / midi programmist / bassist and went on to produce two additional albums: "Future History" (year needed), and "Bright Light From A Single Spark" (2008) for which Jimmy was awarded the "Individual Artist Award in Artistic Excellence" from the Maryland State Arts Council.

Jimmy also produced various DJ and Hip Hop artists, including the 12-inch vinyl release from DJ Kevin James, "Glad Today".

In 1994 Jimmy founded his own recording labels "Replicant Records" & "Nice & Neat Music".
