Jolien Schukking is a Dutch judge and lawyer. She is the judge at the European Court of Human Rights with respect to The Netherlands since 2017.[1][2]

She is born on the 9th August 1967 in Noordoostpolder (Netherlands).[1]

Education[edit]

After a year at Bennington College (Vermont USA) in 1986-1987, she pursued a law cursus at the University of Leiden where she obtained a master's degree in law in 1992.[3]

Career[edit]

She worked as a lawyer at the Administrative Jurisdiction Division of the Council of Stata at The Hague from 1993 to 1998. She also worked at the European Commission of Human Rights in Strasbourg in 1996.[4] [1]

Between 1998 and 2007, she was representing the government of the Netherlands before the European Court of Human Rights and the United Nations Human Rights Treaty Bodies.[3]

From 2006 to 2013 she was substitute judge at the Regional Court of Rotterdam, and from 2009 to 2013 judge at the Regional Court of Utrecht.[1]

Between 2010 and 2017 she was member of the Advisory Committee of the Dutch Section of the International Commission of Jurists[1] of which she was a member since 1997.[5]

She is judge of the European Court of Human Rights since 3 April 2017.
