Jonathan Marc Feldman is an American playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. As a screenwriter he has sold and been commissioned to write screenplays for a variety of independents and every major studio. He has written scripts for Tom Hanks, Edward Zwick, Barry Levinson, Michael Douglas, Sydney Pollack, Kennedy-Marshal, Merchant-Ivory, Mark Gordon, Pierce Brosnan and Donald Rosenfeld among others. He has written pilots for Brillstein Grey, Sony, ABC and HBO.[1]
Career
[edit]Early
[edit]As a young screenwriter, Feldman was invited to the Sundance Lab with his screenplay Swing Kids, which was subsequently produced and released by Disney starring Christian Bale, Robert Sean Leonard and Frank Whaley.
Feldman's first play, The Buddy System, was produced at Cincinnati Playhouse In The Park and subsequently at Circle in the Square when he was 21 years old.[2][3] At the same time, he was the youngest member of the Actors Studio playwrights' and directors' unit run by Elia Kazan, Joseph Mankiewicz and Arthur Penn and was a playwright member of Circle Rep where numerous plays of his were produced in their PIPS series.[4]
Television
[edit]In 2024, Feldman created and wrote all ten episodes of the upcoming original series Bohemian Grove for Martin Scorsese to direct and produce. Additional producers include Rick Yorn, Julie Yorn, Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple.
Later that year, Feldman wrote all ten episodes for the first season of a series based on the definitive, three volume Eleanor Roosevelt biography by Blanche Wiesen Cooke for producers Donald Rosenfeld, Silda Spitzer, Cannon Hersey and others.
Film and Theatre
[edit]His screenplay for Huck Adrift, a daring, not-for-children adaptation of Huckleberry Finn is in pre-production and set to film summer 2025, produced by Sovereign Films.
In 2024, Feldman finished the screenplay for American Blood with Jessica Biel set to star and produce. Further producers include Michelle Purple, Laray Mayfield, and Rick and Julie Yorn.
Feldman additionally wrote the book and lyrics for a musical adaptation of his movie Swing Kids. The project is currently in development for the West End and Broadway with Tony Award nominee Justin Ellington writing the music, producers Donald Rosenfeld and Mark Gordon, multiple Tony Award nominee director Leigh Silverman and starring multiple Tony Award nominee, Brandon Victor Dixon.[1]
Feldman's play The Death of the Novel was produced by San Jose Rep and starred Vincent Kartheiser from Mad Men.[5]
Literature
[edit]His new novel will be published in the winter of 2025 by the brand-new publishing house Pan-American Books as its inaugural novel. The same house also publishes the new, in-print only magazine County Highway edited by David Samuels and Walter Kirn.
Academia
[edit]Feldman taught a Master Class in the Graduate Film and Drama program at Columbia University in March 2024.
