JOS CLAES Jos Ghislain Eugene Claes (born 23/05/1965, Genk-B) is a Belgian engineer in the motor racing industry. Since 1998 he is mainly working for Dallara Automobili SpA, Italy.
Claes studied both in Utrecht (NL) and Genth (B). After a short spell working for the Mahy family, Jos joined Dallara Automobili da Competizione first time in 1990. He alternated between a job at Dallara (during the winters) and track engineering jobs (during the race season) in France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy in various F3 and F3000 teams.
In december 1997, as a full time consultant, he joined the R&D department at Dallara; the company he still works for today. He held a central development role in various new F3 car generations and he was instrumental in negotiating the deals resulting in Midland and Campos-Meta/HRT F1 teams, Super Formula in Japan, F-ADAC, MRF in India and some Sports Car deals. Many people know him best as F3-engineer and strong defender of the category.
Claes represented Dallara at the FIA (Féderation International de l'Automobile) in several technical groups for about 20 years.
Occasionally during the last 20 years, he added track engineering weekend jobs in DTM, at Le mans and in other Sports Car events, mostly with te various teams of Colin Kolles.
