Joseba Gabilondo (Urretxu, Basque Country, born June 12, 1963) is a Basque writer, professor and literary critic. He has taught at several American universities (Florida University, University of Nevada, Bryn Mawr College, Michigan State University).[1] In 2014 he won the Basque Literature Award (Euskadi Saria) in the Essay category with New York Martutene.[2] He also won the Unamuno Essay Prize in 2015 with his essay Globalizazioak eta Erdi Aro berria (Globalizations and the New Middle Ages).[3] In 2016, he published the first history of Basque literature originally written in English: Before Babel: A History of Basque Literatures.[4]

After writing a trilogy in the field of Basque literary criticism (Introduction to a Postnational History of Contemporary Basque Literature, New York-Martutene, Before Babel), he began another trilogy, with a critical-theory approach, about (post)globalization. He has already published the first two books of the trilogy: Globalizazioak eta Erdi Aro berria (2016; published in Spanish as Globalizaciones: La nueva Edad Media y el retorno de las diferencias) and Populismoaz: Subiranotasun globala eta euskal independentzia (2017; On Populism: Global Sovereignty and Basque Independence). The tentative title of the third book is: Apokalipsirantz: geroaren historia politikoa (Towards the Apocalypse: Political History of the Future).

He has also begun another trilogy about the Spanish state. He published the first book in 2024: España postimperial: Ideologías del imperio restaurativo (Postimperial Spain: Ideologies of the Restaurant Empire). The tentative title of the second book is Atlantic Spain: Literature, Postimperialism, and the Long Nineteenth Century (1766-1923).
