Joseph Farid Jaja, also spelt as Geagea, Gaegae or Jaajaa, is a professor in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Maryland, a former interim Chair at the department of electrical and computer engineering, former director of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS), former interim director of the center for bioinformatics and computational biology, and a Ph.D. holder in applied mathematics, division of engineering and applied physics at Harvard..[1]

Early Life[edit]

Joseph was born to Farid and Mary Geagea in Becharre, North lebanon, he has a sister, Nouhad, and a brother, Samir Geagea[2], who is a politician and former warlord, they can be seen together in certain images during their father, Farid's, funeral[3]. He got his B.S in Math from the American University of Beirut, and then immigrated to the United States where he completed his Ph.D. in applied mathematics in 1977 at Harvard University[4]

Personal Life[edit]

He is married to Sharon Laskowski, they have been married since June 5th 1982 and have 3 kids together[5], Sharon has also received her BS from Trinity College, Hartford, CT and her PhD in computer science from Yale University.
