Joseph Kubisz (14 March 1885, Konska – 6 November 1940, Chicago) was a Austro-Hungarian diplomat in the USA, in the years 1919–1933 he held the post of Polish consul in New York, Pittsburgh and Chicago. [1]
Joseph Kubisz was born 14 March 1885 in Konska, Austrian Silesia in a farmer family. He was the son of the Paweł Kubisz (1831–?) and Ewa Zielina (1851–1928). He attended primaryschool in Konska and Protestant gymnasium in Cieszyn. Joseph Kubisz served as a volunteer in the Austro-Hungarian Navy. He was Austro-Hungarian diplomat in the United States. [2]
In 1919 he was accepted into the Polish consular service and worked in New York, Pittsburgh and Chicago. [3] Before leaving to the USA, he lived in Warsaw. According to US immigration records, his arrival was on 2 June 1919 (Ship Canada from Marseilles to New York). In 1930, according to US Census records, he was living in Pittsburgh (Urban District 1-250). He returned to Poland in 1933, where he worked at the Ministry of Posts and Telegraphs in Warsaw (until 1939). He died on 6 November 1940 in Chicago at age 55 and was buried on 11 November 1940 in Saint Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Niles, Cook County. The grave of Joseph Kubisz is unknown.
He married Helen E Hojka (6 January 1895, Chicago - 16 June 1967, Evergreen Park), she was a descendant of Polish emigrants to the USA. The wedding ceremony took a place on 19 May 1925 in Cook County. They had no children. Helen E Hojka Kubisz died 27 years later on 16 June 1967. She most likely did not remarry, her tombstone epitaph is - "Helen E Kubisz / Wife of Joseph / 1967". She was buried in the same cemetery - Saint Adalbert Catholic Cemetery. [4]
