Kathy Gallegos[edit]
Kathy Gallegos is a visual artist and Chicana Art Curator known for founding Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park, CA[1].
Biography[edit]
Kathy Gallegos was born in New York, but moved to the San Fernando Valley California in the 1970s.[2] Kathy Gallegos founded Avenue 50 Studio in November of 1999, which continues to be one of the longest running centers in the Highland Park community today.[3] This studio now offers various programs ranging from exhibitions, and an Artist in Discussion Series to various workshops[1]
Notable Works:[edit]
- Chicano Solidarity with Nicaragua, 1986 is a mural Kathy Gallegos worked on in collaboration with other Chicano artists.[4]
- Ralphy's Pain, 1997 is Kathy Gallegos' art piece that features La Virgen de Guadalupe.[5]
- Día de los Muertos Exhibit is a project Kathy Gallegos hosted in collaboration with LA Art Contemporary in November of 2017. [6]
- Kathy Gallegos has founded Avenue 50 Studio with the goal of providing underrepresented Chicano/a/x artists a platform to showcase their art. [7]

- Kathy Gallegos received the position of Vice Chair of California Arts Council in 2014 and once again in 2018.[8]
