From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kavita Gupta is an entrepreneur and venture capitalist. She is the founder of Delta Blockchain Fund and has been involved in digital currencies for nearly a decade. She is also a cofounder of Fintech.TV.

Early life and career[edit]

Born in India,[1] Gupta began her career in crypto as a bitcoin miner in 2013.[2]

Gupta worked on the trading floor of the World Bank[3], headed the Youth Innovation Fund, and held positions in companies The World Bank, HSBC, and International Finance Corporation. She also served as head of mission investing for the family foundation of Alphabet Inc. executive Eric Schmidt.[1]

Gupta has been the GP and cofounder of Consensys Ventures (investment arm of Consensys) and Tachyon, a blockchain accelerator program.[2]

She has worked in the US, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa.[1]

In 2017, Gupta was hired to lead ConsenSys Ventures,[3] a $50 million hedge fund under ConsenSys, a firm that develops blockchain applications.[4] She led the investments and mentoring of 40 startup companies in over 11 subcategories, including crypto trading platforms and gaming studios, such as BlockFi, StarkWare Industries and Sorare.[3][5][6]

In 2019, Gupta announced that she was stepping down from her role at ConsenSys Ventures to pursue an advisory role at the company, and to teach at Stanford University,[3] where she is a lecturer and visiting scholar.[7] That same year, she founded Fintech.TV, which covers financial and tech news, with broadcasting locations in Nasdaq and NYSE.[8][9] She also gave a TED Talk describing how cryptocurrency could lead to economic inclusivity.[10]

In 2020, Gupta founded Delta Blockchain Fund, a $120 million fund,[11] which focuses on early investment in rising technologies.[12] Since 2020, the fund has invested in 26 early-stage companies.[2]

Gupta has spoken about the bias against women in emerging technologies and the need to increase the participation of women in this industry.[12] This bias can be seen in the disproportionately low number of female led start-ups that receive funding, and the small number of females who direct venture capitalist funding.[13]She has worked on several films including Lunchbox, Monsoon Shootout, Bombay Talkies.[14]

Philanthropy[edit]

Gupta is a member of the board of the International Emmy Awards and the Distributed Trust Initiative.[15] She also serves on the boards of Vatican Impact Investment Community, MIT Solve, and Mandela Trust. [16]

She is an adviser to UNICEF's GIGA Connect project.[15]

She is a founding team member of Stanford’s Distributed trust initiative, a platform for dialogue and research on identity and systems.[16]
