Kazakhstan culture reflects the history of the nomadic tribes which roamed the Kazakh steppe forming their unique worldview, creating eclectic customs and traditions, and mixing with neighboring cultures. Nestled in the center of Central Asia, the Kazakh people have for many centuries adhered to certain values that are reflected in their traditions. They are a superstitious people whose culture is full of traditions sometimes not mentioned in any other nations.
The main values of their culture are not allowing excess of food and drinks, respect for their bloodline, support for their nation.
Excess[edit]
There is a list of traditions which display Kazakh people’s respect for food and drinks. One of the main customs is “Sarkyt”. When people celebrate a huge event in their lives, they have a lot of food and drinks in order to show hospitality to their guests. However, there are a lot of dishes that the family hosting an event will not be able to eat left. This is why they allocate the food left for all of their guests. Therefore, their families will eat these dishes.
Bloodline[edit]
Kazakh people have a meaningful respect for their ancestors. One of the traditions that showcases it is knowing their last 7 grandfathers. It has also contributed to not marrying their close relatives.
Nature[edit]
Kazakh people were a nomad nation. They used to move for one place to another without leaving any garbage. They were living in yurts that were made of totally organic materials - felt and wood.[1] They also did not produce many items, - they used to pass down their special clothes or items to the next generation.
Support[edit]
A lot of traditions in Kazakh culture are somehow connected to supporting their nation. Many Kazakh classic books showcase these tradition. When people used to travel on horses, the road was taking a long time and the travelers would get tired. This is why they would stop at any house and people living in it would feed him and provide with a place to sleep.
Another tradition is helping their relatives or neighbours in hard situations. When a Kazakh family were building a house or facing financial difficulties, people around them would help them materialistically.
