Before joining the IDF, Itzhaki faced potential eyesight loss from complications during eye surgery. Serving as a combat operator and head of close-quarter combat instruction in Duvdevan, the IDF's elite counter-terrorism unit, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. During his training in Duvdevan, Itzhaki lost his short-term memory due to a training accident.[1]
